Quite a bit of writing today in the press about GW and his new inquiry into the 'intelligence' behind his bogus Iragi WMD claim. Let's be clear; history will show that if GW and his posse knew anything about Iraqi weapons they knew Iraq was not an imminent threat to anyone beyond its immediate neighbors. More importantly, they did not care, they were determined to go there regardless. Read: "Smoke screen".

The Film

Scott Barbour first contacted me in the winter or spring of '96, I think. He was looking for a phone number and found mine listed. We had never met. He wanted to talk about Andy Wood. He felt the world should know about Andy so he wanted to make a film, a documentary. I think Scott was in film school at the time. At first I didn't see the point. I just thought, "Man, you need to find another project." My response was luke warm at best. But he persisted. He called back more than once. Getting to know him over the phone I think I still wasn't taking his film idea very seriously but I was starting to like him. Next thing I knew he was on his way up here ( he lived in San Fransisco ) to start interviewing. I must have helped him get in touch with some other 'victims' because he came up to meet others beside myself. So it began. Over the years we would see and hear from him periodically.

Anyway, I don't have time to recount more detail now. I have homework to do! Suffice to say it turned into an ENORMOUS project. I think well beyond what Scott imagined he might be getting into by at least an order of magnitude.

So, a few of us finally got to see a rough edit this past weekend, friday night. What could I say about it with a few quick words? Ha, film critic that I am! It's really good. It's about Andy. It's about Malfunkshun. It's about Mother Lovebone. It's about Seattle music. It's about drugs. It's about ...get it? It's a little about everything. It's about a life that touched alot of other lives, including lives of those who never met him but have heard him.

Word is the film will be shown at the Seattle film festival next year. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
